The Ford Focus RS 🔯driver enjoyed another competitive outing during the penultimate weekend of the season at Silverstone, to remain in mathematical contention of clinching this year's BTCC crown.
Chilton followed hiꦫs team mate Sam Tordoff across the line in second position during race one for his sixth BTCC podium finish 🍎of the year to help Motorbase Performance secure a dominant 1-2 finish.
"I’m just happy I’m in the top-three. I finished 3rd in the WTCC lastꩵ year and top-three in the BTCC at the moment. It’s a good place to be," Chilto🌼n told mahbx.com.
"This is an extrem♏ely 𝓡competitive championship. Nobody should ever underestimate the BTCC, it is pretty much the most competitive championship in the world.
"It’s a tough championship. It’s been great for our team this weekend with a 1-2 result. I’m very happy for my team mate Sam [Tordoff] to be the 15th 🐼different winner."
Knowing a title assault 64-points off Colin Turkington's championship lead - with 67 left on the table - is very much out of the question, Chilton has set his focus on keeping reigning champion Ashley ღSutton at bay for a top-three championship finish.
Chilton hasn't ruled out taking the second in the sta🅠ndings, but would need to overhaul a 30-point deficit between himself and Speedworks Motorsport's Tom Ingram.
"We got good points [at Silverstone] but I think first place is off the cards! I’m the most positive driver but I’m not going to win three races at Brands and Colin Turkington is not going to get a DNF in three races," Chilton co🌌ntinued.
"The question is, can I get Ingram? I need Ingram to have a real snotty weekend and me to have an amazing weekend to✨ get second. For me, it’s about holding off Ash Sutton, who, we know with that car, is going to be quick around Brands GP.
"It’s about holding him o💫ff, as well as the Morgan’s and the Cook’s because they’r🐟e all very close behind me. It’s about me getting a killer qualifying session."
