Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says his team returned t💃o its “old form” at the United States Grand Prix, which he believes acts as the highlight from its championsh🍬ip-winning 2019 Formula 1 season.

The German manufacturer claimed its ninth 1-2 finish of th🧜e campaign as Lewis Hamilton sealed his sixth world title with a second-place finish behind teammate Valtteri Bottas in Austin. Bottas also scored Mercedes' first pole since July's German Grand Prix, ending a four-month drought for the team.

Mercedes had already clinched its sixth strai꧟ght championship crown in Japan and has now become the first team in F1 history to win six straight wo𒀰rld championship doubles.

“Every championship seems like the hardest, it’s may🍸be because we are protected by our memory, but certainly this year had its ups and downs,” Wolff said.

“We came o🦩ut of the blocks very strong, didn’t have the quickest package on Saturday for a long time but we are able to make the least mistakes on a Sunday. That was probꦗably the biggest key in making us win the championship.

“For me, the highlight is Austin. We came back to old fo🃏rm, winning a title decider with𒁃 Valtteri and winning the championship with Lewis with strong pace is for me the highlight of the season.”

Hamilton’s latest title triumph moves him just one championship shy of Michael Schumache⛎r’s all-timeꦕ record of seven.

Asked if he b𒀰elieves Hamilton can go on to match Schumacher, Wolff rep♕lied: “There is a reason why the Schumacher record stands - because it’s very difficult.

“If we’re able to provide the drivers with a good car next year that is competitive, we ꦬcontinue to work on the♚ gaps we still have, try and minimise the mistakes and he has a good season, there is no reason why he couldn’t go for a seventh title.

“He just drives cars bloody fast,” Wolff add෴ed. “It✤’s where talent meets a big push for self improvement all the time.

“And that combination, the background, mak♉es him stand out in his generati🌞on.”
