The 2021 British Grand Prix has been red-flagged after Max Verstappen suffered a huge accident following a collision with Formula 1 title rival Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap.

In a dramatic start to the race, Hamilton and Verstappen came together at Copse as Hamilton attempted to take the lead with a late dive into the c🌠orner.

Hamilton had already seen attempts to pass Verstappen at Abbey and Brooklands rebuffed before he lunged d🦹own the inside at Copse having tucked into the Red Bull driver’s slipstream.

With neither driver backܫing out into the high-speed corner, Hamilton’s front left tyre made contract with Verst🌳appen’s rear right, sending the championship leader hurtling into the barriers.

Verstappen was winded in the high-impact with the barriers but was able to walk away from his ca🐲r, before being taken to the medical centre for precautionary checks.

The British GP was red-flagged following the incident so barrier repairs can be🌊 carried out, while the incident is under investigation.

Red Bull team bo⭕ss Christian Horner called Hamilton’s move “desperate” a🍃nd “dirty driving”.

Charles Leclerc was leading the British GP from Hamilton and Valtter♛i Bottas at the time the race was suspended.
