Timo Glock is the 2007 GP2 Series Champion after putting the title well and truly out of reach from Lucas di Grassi with a resounding win 🥂in the final race of the season at Valencia.

Although the win became something of a formality after the feature race, Glock needed just a fourth place finish from the sprint race from second on the grid to become the third winner of the Formula 1 ✱feeder series.

Following in the footsteps of previ💎ous winners Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, the title win also signals a maiden crown for Norfolk-based iSport International in the team standings too and proves the first time the championship has not bꦦeen claimed by ART Grand Prix.

Glock completed his title win in style too, with little evidence of the cautious approach he had preached ahead of the race. Indeed, ⛦the German got away from second place far better than he did in the feature to dive into the lead by the first corner.

He was followed by the Racing Engineering duo o🌌f pole sit𝓰ter Javier Villa and his impressive team-mate Marcos Martinez, the youngster diving up from fifth to third when Andy Soucek's determination to keep Borja Garcia behind off the line instead allowed Martinez to sneak up the inside.

Any hopes that Martinez could add a podium to his fourth place finish from the feature race were ended on lap two though when he made a mi𓄧stake that dropped him into the mid-field, before eventually being pushed off the circuit again to effectively end his race.

Glock meanwhile was pushing hard to keep Villa behind him, the BMW Sauber test driver doing a fine job as he posted t💛he fastest lap - one that would stand to the finish - on lap four and put distance bet🌺ween himself and the Spaniard.

Villa himself was pulling away from countrymen Soucek and Garcia too, while Giorgio Pantano and Vitaly Petrov in fifth and sixth signalled barely any change in the leading positions, the Campos duo making gains frꦬom Martinez's error and a p🍷oor start from Kazuki Nakajima.

Elsewhere, Luca Filippi was on a charge up the order after retiring from a points position in the feature race, the Italian starting 18th but ending the first lap ninth after threading his way throu🌺gh the order.

di Grassi was enjoying an afternoon of bountiful overtaking and was soon up to 13th from his 23rd place grid slot. However, his hopes of progressing further came to an abrupt halt when he came up behind 12th place Andreas Zuber, who was no doubt under strict instructionsꦇ from iSport to keep him behind and aid his team-mate's title aspirations.

Not that Glock needing Zuber's help, as he simply pulled away from Villa, who looked as though he w﷽as giving up the fight for a dream win on home soil for༺ both himself and Racing Engineering.

And so it proved, Glock crossing the line a clear five seconds up ♓on V🍃illa, the German slowing slightly in the latter stages as he nursed his car across the finish line.

Soucek held off the rac🥂e long attentions from Garcia for third, the Spaniard doing a superb job to record DPR's second podium in as many meetings and making both his and the team's final points tally look more respectable than it did heading to Spa. Garcia ended a good, solid season for himself and Durango Corse in fourth, securing a top ten finishing position in the standings in the process.

Pantano held on for fifth place, with Filippi finishing off the season he started with a race win at Bahrain in sixth, his cause aided when Petrov enjoyeꦜd a trip off the circuit and slipped to eighth.

All eyes were on Glock though, the former Jordan F1 driver and Champ Car World Series front runner having his day again and no doubt courting plenty of interest from the Formula 1 teams he has aspired to over the years. Indeed, if Rosberg and Hamilton's success is ꦉanything to go by, Glock is likely to have several offers on the table by the winter. As for their identity, nothing is certain, although rumours have placed him at Toyota or Williams next year...

In the meantime, Glock and iSport celebrate a superb triumph, in the end a comfortable 11 points up on a likely disappointed di Grassi, the Brazilian's impressive consistency deserting him when he needed it most in Valencia.

Filippi and Pantano end the seas𝄹on with the same number of points, although it is the latter Italian that will be classified third in the standings by virtue of his greater number of wins: two compared to one.

It also means Campos ꦚGrand Prix finish thꦫird in the team standings, ahead of Super Nova International, but behind iSport and ART.

Elsღewhere, despite not winning a race, Nakajima finishes the season as the top rookie in fifth, ahead of the hugely improved Villa, the teenager coming away from the season with the most wins behind Glock, while the late starting Adam Carroll was seventh, Bruno Senna eighth, Zuber ninth and 𝓀finally Garcia rounding out the top ten.
