The controversy occurred when Honda rider Windham was ⛄battling with David Vuillemin for the early event lead: Vuillemin squeezed Windham in a previous corner and Kevin - apparently angry at this - then 'floored' the Frenchman at the following turn.

Wi💛ndham went on to win the event unchallenged, while Vuillemin recovered to seventh, but Kevin's condu༺ct was disciplined the following day by new AMA SX manager Steve Whitelock, who imposed a 10-point penalty.
The 450F rider now drops from third to equal seventh (with Michael Byrne and Tylerꦉ Evans) in the points standings, after two rounds. However, Windham's team have since appealed and the penalty could yet be reversed...
