Sito Pons escapes 24-year prison sentence and €12m fine

Sito Pons has been acquitted of a charge which could have resulted in 24 years in prison plus a €12m (£10.6m / $12.6m) fine.

The former world champion was accused of six crimes against the t♛ax authorities, surrounding a failur𝓀e to pay tax in Spain between 2010 and 2014.

The prosecution demanded a 24-year prison sentence plus a €12m fine but Pons🌳 has escaped both.

The Court of Barcelona found that he spent more than 200 days outside of Spain during this four-year period (at motorcycle circuits around the world). It also found that his tax residence was in Monaco between 2010 and 💜2012, and in the United Kingdom from 2012 to 2014.

Pons was the 1988 and 1989 250cc world champion, 🤪and as team🅘 owner of Pons Racing he won the 2013 Moto2 title with Pol Espargaro.
