Butꦦ Yamaha are also improving their current inline-4, team boss Massimo Meregalli confirmed.

“ꦇThe testing team is busy developing both,” 🌺he said. “The current bike [Inline-4] and the new bike [V4 engine]. With the new bike we have done only a functionality test.

“We are not in thౠe moment to evaluate the performance. The factory guys will test this bike only when we believe the performance is good enough to 🐼feel it, to understand it.”

Yamaha’s test in Barcelona was in addition to the officia♉l MotoGP Aragon test on Monday.

Concessions rules allow Yamaha and Honda extra days o💯f testing to fast-track their improvement.

“It’s always i👍mportant to test,” Meregalli said. “You don’t have 🤪enough time for testing anywhere, anytime.

If you see the final race resu𓆉lts - we cannot say it has been positive.”

Meregalli spotted a difference between Yamaha’s efforts at the Aragon MotoGP this year compared to 2024𝓡.

“But if we compare it to last year? We finished with 🍒a gap of 39s, but [this year] was 19s,” he said.

“The fastest lap last year was 1.3s, [this year] was less than four tenths. This is where we are monitoring the improvement of the bike. Fabio did a really good lap t♏ime. I liked how, on Friday we struggled, bu🐲t on Saturday we got into Q2 to start the race from the third row.

“We had some updates in the engine, just little updates. We always explore set-ups that we ca♔nnot do during the race weekend. The plan was longer than the time we had!

“Our way to work is: if they feel no negatives, then it’s the path we work with. It’s🤡 a matter of fine-tuning.”
