P🙈eugeot have finally elected to withdraw Marcus Gronholm from the Cyprus Rally - but not before making a complete a mockery of the SupeRally regulations.
Under the controversial re-start format, which was trialled lꦿast year, drivers' can rejoin on an event and still score points, however for every stag🥃e they miss, they are given a 5 minute penalty.
Normally this means if you cannot actually re-start the next day, it is pointless remaining enꦅtered, however Peugeot figured that with the high rate of attrition being experienced this weekend, it might be worthwhile keeping the Finn 'entered' in order to still score manufacturers' points. Thus this morning, despite having retired on SS1 on Friday, when his cam belt failed, something that was too severe a problem to fix, Gronholm was still officially listed in the overall classification, in the ✤hope he might still pick up 1 or 2 constructors' points.
Theoretically speaking then it is believed the Finn could have scored points for Peugeot without having completed a single stage - somet♊hi🐎ng that is just ridiculous.
Peugeot however finally retired him around 11pm loc♑al time.
The sports' governing body, the FIA though should t꧋ake note and close this loop-hole immediately.
